ATTORNEY BIOS
N. DeWayne Pope : Mr. Pope serves as an employment law/human resources counsel for small and mid-size businesses, non-profit organizations and governmental agencies. In this capacity, he assists companies on a broad range of issues including contracts (employment, independent contractor, confidentiality, non-compete, non-solicitation), human resources (policy and procedure review and development, assisting with day-to-day human resource issues), compliance (ADA, ADEA, FLSA, FMLA, Title VII), and training. Mr. Pope also manages litigation, and represents companies in court and administrative proceedings.
Mr. Pope is a graduate of Samford University's Cumberland School of Law, where he was the Managing Editor of the Cumberland Law Review and a Cordell Hull Teaching Fellow. Following law school, he served as a judicial law clerk to Senior U.S. District Court Judge Robert E. Varner. Prior to establishing DeWayne Pope, LLC, in November 2006, Mr. Pope was a partner in the Birmingham office of Balch & Bingham LLP. While at Balch & Bingham, he worked in the Litigation and Labor & Employment practice groups, representing companies in a wide variety of commercial and employment cases and advising companies on various employment law issues. Mr. Pope also is the managing member of dp business consulting, LLC, a business and human resources consulting firm focusing on contract management, human resource audits, project management, strategic planning and training.
Mr. Pope has authored numerous articles on employment law, technology and litigation issues, and is the author of chapters on the Family & Medical Leave Act and the Occupational Safety & Health Act in the Employment Law E-Desk Reference, a project of the Defense Research Institute Defense Library Series. He is a frequent speaker to business and professional groups on employment law issues, and is a past instructor in the Human Resource Management Certification Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Mr. Pope is a member of the Alabama State Bar and the Georgia State Bar. He also is a member of the Defense Research Institute, where he is active in the Employment Law Committee and is a past Chair of the Lawyers' Professionalism & Ethics Committee.
